News : Version 16.20
29th March 2025
Winteracter v16.20 is now available. This release adds a variety of minor new functionality and fixes.
As previously, v16.0 licence holders should continue to use your existing 16.0 licence file and credentials to download and install this release.
- Graphics text fonts
- Three additional pre-defined graphics text font options have been added to
WGrTextFont . The actual font selected by each option varies depending
on platform and output format. In Windows GDI output, they select Lucida Console, Tahoma or Georgia. More generally, each of the three new font family options
are designed to select a font characteristically similar to the existing Courier, Helvetica or Times options, but usually with a different appearance.
The additional pre-defined fonts are supported by more drivers than the existing "user defined" font option (notably PostScript, CGM, SVG, HP-GL/2).
- The Linux version now uses a system "Symbol" font, where available (e.g. Ubuntu 20 onwards), rather than always defaulting to the inferior software equivalent. Also better Symbol font selection in the SVG driver, on Linux.
- Better font choices in HP-GL/2 output. A separate HP LaserJet 4L/5L/6L HP-GL/2 device type also allows better font selection on these printers.
- GraphEd allows the new fonts to be selected in all text related options (annotation, scale, key, etc.).
- WiDE
- A new "Open Demo" option simplifies investigation of the supplied example programs, offering a categorised treeview, with additional descriptive info about each demo.
- The logic behind the Libraries dialog has been substantially reworked to eliminate common configuration errors. In particular, the revised logic takes better account of platform-dependent considerations and reduces scope for counter-productive configuration changes.
W3dFacet now eliminates redundant intermediate vertices in collinear facet edges, eliminating unwanted shading artefacts in lit views.
- Several common dialog refinements, including improved wildcard support in the X Windows file selector.
- Button handling in toolbars, dialogs and grids has been reworked on Xwayland to work around a "dead button" issue observed at startup in some applications (e.g. WiDE) on Ubuntu 24.
- Minor improvements to the user interface in HTML/Javascript help file sets generated by HelpEd. The same improvements also benefit the supplied documentation, on Linux/macOS.
- Intel oneAPI 2025.1 tested. The Windows 64-bit library has been slightly revised to work around a fault in the Intel compiler used to build the library, to eliminate an unresolved requirement for
svml_disp.lib .
- Several important fixes in the 3D modelling routines.
